Welcome to PbPHUD.com and PbPMAP.com!
PbPHUD.com is a sister-site to PbPMap.com. While once it hosted a campaign manager and play by post forums, those features were merged with PbPMap.com. Now PbPHUD.com serves as a portal to PbPMAP.com, but also a place where people can sample the persistent combat map (available for use on pbpmap.com), use our dice roller (which prevents the ability to cheat by linking back to the results on our site and database) and our Tabs function, which is helpful in play by post games by consolidating all of your play by post game windows into a single browser tab.
If you are looking for play by post forums, please visit pbpmap.com forums Where you can ask one of the forum moderators to set up a new forum for you, as well as a combat map if you desire. We have an excellent, friendly and growing community over, all of them play by post game lovers, and great people. We meet every day in the play by post chat room to discuss our games and other topics of interest.
What is a Play by Post Game?
Perhaps you are new to play by post games and are wondering what they are all about. Well, most commonly, play by post games are played on a web forum, a bulletin board where people can post messages under an alias / nickname that are always available on the web for others to view and respond to if they wish. In the case of play by post forums, people play different role playing games, such as Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, and other popular (and some obscure) games. There is often a strong element of role play on play by post forums, which appeals to a lot of people who are into role playing games. If role playing isn't your thing, we occasionally have role play lite games, where the focus is on the action, combat and skill usage, and not so much on character development.
Some people think play by post games using forums or email would be far too slow, but really the post is fast enough in many of our games, that people can feel the excitement of the game persistently. Though obviously the nature of a play by post forum would make for a much slower game than playing in person or using a virtual table top, the pace is usually quick enough that the action and suspense are there in prominence.
Other people might worry that they don't have time to do something like this. Though play by post games vary in posting speed, most game masters (those who lead, organise and direct the play by post game) allow for people who can post at least 2 or 3 times per week. We do have some players who post many times each day (over several different games), however a lot of their posts are role play in nature, and can be skimmed over. On average you can expect to spend about a half hour per game you are involved in per day reading and responding to posts. This can end up being a couple of hours a week in total, or several hours every day, depending on your desired level of involvement.
How Can I Join a Play by Post Game?
If you want to join a play by post game, head on over to our play by post forums and check out the forum entitled "Game Masters (GM's) looking for players & players looking for GM's". Register on the forums first if you haven't already, and then click the activation email that you get (check spam if it doesn't show after 5 minutes or so). In your post just introduce yourself, any play by post history you have, other play by post games you've enjoyed, the particular game systems or themes you'd like to try out, and just a little bit about yourself as a person or gamer. We usually have at least a couple of games that are accepting new players, so the wait should not be too long.
How Can I Start My Own Play by Post Game?
If you want to start your own play by post game, follow the steps in the section above to register, and them send a private message to either Gicker, Parody or Xamvim. Alternatively you could post your desire to start a new game in the looking for players/games forum or the general discussion forum. Let us know whether you want to have a combat map for your play by post forum as well. We are usually pretty quick on setting up new forums, and then you simply need to advertise your game for players in the looking for players/games forum.
Celebrating Play by Post Games!
We at PbPHud.com and PbPMap.com thoroughly enjoy our play by post forums and games, and want to extend our hospitality and services to any decent person out there who is interested.
